A strong jet stream is bringing arctic air masses into central and southern states today creating a slow-moving storm that is moving across the central and southern states of America, turning heavy over Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Luissiana and Mississippi in the next few hours. The severe thunderstorms will be accompanied by strong winds, hail and a risk of tornadoes.

Yesterday, on Monday 23/05 the weather system turned heavy over Texas creating a strong and massive tornado north of Morton. The officials warned people to move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building in order to protect themselves. A storm chaser in Texas who observed the tornado called it an "absolute monster".

The weather system will head northeastwards the next days bringing severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes across the central and the southern states on Wednesday and Thursday, turning more heavy across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. On Saturday and Sunday the system will move far to the east bringing severe weather also to the eastern states with Carolinas and Virginia having the biggest threat for large hail and flooding. Gust winds of 100 km/h or over locally are predicted.
