Category 2 Hurricane Bonnie, which will be upgraded soon to Category 3, is centered today across the eastern Pacific Ocean, western of Mexico City, after causing flash flooding over the Caribbean countries and Venezuela killing 2 people, while Aere (Domeng), a tropical depression centered over Japan will intensify in the next few hours and upgrade to a Tropical Storm.

Hurricane Bonnie is the first major hurricane for 2022, caused flooding and killed 2 people: Bonnie was borned on 22/06 over the center of the Atlantic west of Guinea and headed northwestwards during the next days towards Venezuela, made an landfall on 29/06 and upgraded into a tropical disturbance. Bonnie spreaded heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across eastern Venezuela. Bonnie continued moving northwestwards making a landfall over Nicaragua on 2nd of July as a Tropical Storm and was intensified as it moved over the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. The tropical system left severe floods to the country and the conditions were even worse for the eastern coasts as the severe wind gusts were producing heavy rain and difficult conditions. Two people have lost their lives during the events that were related to the flash flooding. Alberto Flores Landero, 40 years old, died trying to cross the swollen Mati river in Siuna in Nicaragua's northeast and Juan Carlos Alemán, 38 years old, died trying to help passengers from a bus that fell into the Ali Bethel river in the same area.

Facts that make Hurricane Bonnie a rare kind of hurricane: Bonnie is the 2nd named storm of the Atlantic Ocean for 2022, as well as for June. There has never been a tropical system during La Niña conditions, as we are experiencing now, the last 150 years during June across the coasts of South America. This is because when we experience La Niña conditions, the waters in the Pacific Ocean are more cold and they knock down wind shear in the Atlantic basin which is necessary in order to create a Tropical System. The other fact that makes this hurricane rare is the fact that after its crossing from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific it not only maintained its tropical characteristics and in consequence also its name, but it was intensified when it "touched" the Pacific Ocean and upgraded to Hurricane Category 1 on 4th of July and later that day to a Category 2 as its sustainable winds were reaching 155-165 km/h. Next hours Hurricane Bonnie will continue moving northwestwards and could intensify and upgrade to a Category 3 Hurricane, reaching 180-200 kmh as it finds energy from the warm waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean.

Tropical System Aere over the Japan: At the same time, in the other part of the Pacific Ocean an other tropical system made an appearance, named Aere ( or else Domeng), a tropical depression which is centered today over Japan and will intensify during the next few hours, upgrade it to a Tropical Storm. Aere was borned on 27th of June, over the Northern Mariana Islands more specific over Palau and headed northwards traveling through the Philippine Sea, made a landfall over Japan today with wind gusts of 70-80 km/h, bringing rain and thunderstorms. Tomorrow the tropical system is going to intensify and upgraded to a Tropical Storm the time when it will be close to Tokyo, bringing thunderstorms, rain, but the most significant characteristic would be the strong winds as its wind gusts will reach 100-110 km/h and could create coastal flooding. During the next few days the system will slowly move ntowards the east and later the north but it will be almost stationary, causing locally across the eastern coasts of Japan flash flooding, reaching even 70-100mm. Aere it will continue to intensify and be upgraded to an extratropical cyclone on 7th of July.
