Bufere di neve e pioggia gelata hanno mandato in tilt i collegamenti stradali, ferroviari e aeri nella Cina centrale, proprio nel periodo di picco degli spostamenti per il capodanno lunare, la festa più sentita tra i cinesi. Martedì mattina quasi un centinaio di autostrade sono state chiuse a causa della neve e del ghiaccio, molte delle quali nella provincia dell'Hubei e in quella dell'Ahnui, dove le temperature sono scese anche sotto lo zero, bloccando migliaia di automobilisti. Alcuni di questi hanno impiegato anche 13 ore per percorrere solamente una trentina di chilometri, in attesa che i mezzi per la pulizia delle autostrade riuscissero a fondere il ghiaccio.

A questi si aggiungono moltissimi passeggeri rimasti bloccati nelle stazioni ferroviarie e negli aeroporti, con centinaia di voli che sono stati cancellati, soprattutto all'aeroporto di Wuhan. Si tratta tra l'altro della prima festività cinese dopo i lunghi anni di rigidissimo stop a causa del Covid, motivo per cui il numero di persone che si sono messe in viaggio è particolarmente elevato. Nella provincia di Hunan si contano inoltre una vittima e tredici persone rimaste ferite in seguito al crollo del tetto di un'azienda agricola, sotto il peso della neve.

Le condizioni meteorologiche su questo settore della Cina sono ora in via di miglioramento, grazie all'esaurimento delle nevicate. Anche le temperature sono previste in aumento, destinate già da oggi a tornare sopra lo zero e permettendo più agevolmente la pulizia di strade e autostrade.
