Forti nevicate e veri e propri blizzard si sono abbattuti sulla Scozia nelle ultime 48 ore mentre piogge intense e allagamenti interessano l'Inghilterra, probabile tornado a Manchester.

Mentre l'inverno latita sull'Europa centro meridionale, la serrata attività atlantica delle alte latitudini sta portando delle vere e proprie tempeste tra il Regno Unito e il comparto scandinavo. L'ultima della serie si chiama Gerrit, un profondo ciclone che sta infuriando sul Mare del Nord con venti fino a 160kmh. Gli effetti della tempesta sono diversi e vanno dalle piogge intense del settore anglosassone meridionale con un probabile tornado a Manchester fino alle condizioni marcatamente invernali del settore settentrionale. Tutta l'area delle Highlands è sotto forti nevicate e veri e propri blizzard da oltre 24 ore con accumuli in quota (500/700m) anche oltre i 40/50cm. L'evento pur se previsto dai centri meteorologici locali, uno tra tutti il Metoffice, ha trovato la popolazione impreparata e la circolazione stradale è andata letteralmente in tilt con incidenti e code di chilometri.
