Over the last almost month, a high pressure system across southwestern Europe is bringing unusually high temperatures breaking a few records for the month of October in Iberia, France and Italy. All is about to change over the next few days as cold air currents from Greenland in the upper atmosphere will slip into Europe, weakening the high pressure system and bringing a significant temperature drop of even 10-15°C at the maximum temperatures.

10-15°C temperature drop in 24h: the temperature drop will be felt from this weekend, starting from the UK with a southeastern direction towards central and southeastern Europe. On Friday, temperatures will reach 27°C in Paris, 25°C in Brussels, while on Saturday temperatures will not be over 13°C. On Saturday, temperatures will reach 23-24°C in Vienna, Budapest and Zagreb, while on Sunday maximum will not be over 12-14°C. The same applies for Milan as temperatures are reaching 24-25°C this week but from Tuesday maximum will drop to 13-14°C. In general, next week many countries especially in central, eastern Europe as well as much of the Balkans will have temperatures 12-14°C.

Rain and thunderstorms are coming: several atlantic low pressure systems will accompany the upcoming temperature drop with a northeastward direction. Much of Europe will have continuous waves of unstable weather with rain and scattered showers or thunderstorms. Some snow will also fall across the northern parts of Scandinavia.
