The combination of continuous low pressure systems from the Norwegian Sea towards Scandinavia and northeastern Europe along with the strong westerly winds which bring arctic air masses are responsible for unstable days with wintry rain or snow, which locally will be heavy across much of northeastern Europe. Already, today, snow is falling across western Norway and Finland. Over the next few hours until Saturday, a temperature drop will be felt from Norwegia towards the northeastern countries.

In more detail, snow showers are expected today (9/09/2023) across Norway, Sweden and Finland which will be heavy locally over Norway. Strong wind is also expected with gusts reaching 80-100km/h creating local blizzard conditions. During the night as the arctic air is arriving from the west minimum temperatures will drop in places even to -15°C in the northern regions.

Tomorrow, wintry showers will travel across Scandinavia and the Baltic states which will turn to heavy snow across Norway, Sweden and Finland, and locally across the Baltic States. Temperatures will drop especially during the night hours, while during the day will be close to 0C across the Baltic states. The strong westerly wind will continue persisting with gusts reaching 90-110km/h bringing local blizzard conditions and coastal floods.

On Saturday, wintry or snow showers are expected, which will be locally intense across Poland, the Baltic states, Belarus and northwestern Ukraine. A new temperature drop will bring minimum temperatures, locally, close to -20°C across the northern parts of Scandinavia, while much of northeastern Europe will have frost. Still strong winds with gusts reaching 80-90km/h but with gradual decrease.
