It's confirmed! This weekend will be cold and frosty with snow over low ground or even at sea level in some cities. As the strong jet stream moves southwards it will bring to central and northern Europe several shots of arctic air which will be accompanied by bands of rain or snow, turning heavy in places. But where will it turn heavy?

RAIN OR SNOW HEAVY IN PLACES. Low pressure systems will dominate this weekend (27-28/11) central and northern Europe bringing unsettled weather conditions. In detail, on Saturday are expected bands of wintry rain or showers, turning to snow over even low ground. Heavy snow will fall over the Alps, the Baltic states, eastern France, southern Germany, the United Kingdom and Poland. It is possible that Estonia may experience, locally, a blizzard (severe snowstorm with strong winds) at the second part of the day. On Sunday, as the low pressure systems persist and cold air masses are in the heart of Europe, snow will fall over low ground, even at 0m in a few places over central and northeastern Europe. The snow will turn heavy over eastern France, Germany, the Alps, Czechia, Poland and the Baltic states. Fog or mist is possible in places. These severe weather conditions will be accompanied by cold winds, which will be stronger in the British Isles, the Northern Sea, the Bay of Biscay and western France with wind gusts reaching locally 90-100 km/h.

TEMPERATURE DROP AND FROST. As the cold arctic air settles down in Europe it brings a significant gradual drop in temperature. On Saturday maximum temperatures will be 0-5°C in central Europe, while in northeastern Europe will be -3 to 3°C. The temperature will vary in Berlin from -2 to 3°C, in Munich from -1 to 2°C, in Prague from -2 to 5°C, in Warsaw from 1 to 3°C, Zurich from -1 to 4°C, in Vienna from 0 to 2°C, in Oslo from -4 to -2°C, in Paris from 1 to 4°Cand in London 2 to 4°C. On Sunday the temperature will continue to drop reaching 0°C in many cities, bringing partly or total frost. The temperature will vary in Berlin from -2 to 3°C, in Munich from -1 to 2°C, in Prague from -1 to 2°C, in Warsaw from 1 to 4°C Zurich from -3 to 2°C, in Vienna from 0 to 2°C, in Oslo from -3 to -1°C, in Paris from 2 to 6°C and in London 0 to 3°C.

OUTLOOK. The last days of autumn the cold air masses will move northeastwards towards Poland, the Baltic states and Finland bringing new snow accompanied by cold winds. On Tuesday new low pressure systems from northern Sea will move southeastwards through the British Isles, bringing bands of heavy rain which will be accompanied by strong wind gusts reaching locally 60 to 80 km/h. These systems will also affect northern and central Europe, bringing scattered showers or snow, turning heavy over Germany and the Alps.
