This week we are expecting unsettled weather for central and especially northern Europe as low pressure systems from the Atlantic Ocean moving eastwards, bringing strong winds, heavy snow, rain and temperature drop. Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice were named today by the Met Office and are going to affect on Wednesday and Friday the UK, while later will head to the east affecting central and northern Europe.

Storm Dudley: a strong westerly jet stream will help the arctic air masses to slip to the east, bringing from Wednesday storm Dudley, a severe storm and the main feature will be the strong winds. Gusts of 85-95km/h are expected, while the waves locally will reach 6-7m in the Celtic Sea. Winds warnings have been issued for Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Storm Dudley will spread snow across Scotland, while scattered showers, heavy in places, will occur from west to the east across the country. Storm Dudley will continue moving eastwards bringing heavy showers across the Low Countries in the afternoon, while Germany, Denmark by night. Thursday the storm will bring heavy rain across or snow across northeastern Europe. The Baltic countries seem to be affected a lot as the storm will spread heavy rain at first but later heavy snow will come which will be accompanied by strong winds of 80-90km/h. Storm Dudley will bring heavy snow also to Scandinavia and Finland will be affected the most with heavy snow on Thursday and Friday. The strong winds locally will create blizzard conditions.

Storm Eunice: the storm is expected to hit the UK on Friday morning and will quickly move northeastwards as the strong winds will help the storm to move fast. Storm Eunice will bring stronger winds than Storm Dudley, as gusts will reach 140-150km/h, while the wave height will be 9-10m in the Celtic Sea. The storm will spread rain across the southern areas of the UK, while wintry showers or snow are predicted over the northern. As Storm Eunice will head east it will spread rain or snow across northern and central Europe, which will turn heavy in Denmark and Sweden. Only one day after the heavy snow showers from Storm Dudley, northeastern Europe will be affected again on Saturday with heavy snow and blizzard conditions in places.

Rain totals for the next five days will be locally 60-80mm for the western UK, 45-55mm  for Denmark, while big amounts of snow are expected in Lithuania, Latvia and Scandinavia.
