Weather in Europe for the Christmas days: showers, snow and strong winds in northern Europe, while sunny spells and temperature rise across the southern
Showers, snow, low temperatures and strong winds for northern Europe: arctic air masses along with low pressure systems will dominate over the next few days until Christmas 25-26/12 the northern and mostly the northeastern Europe bringing temperature drop, patchy frost, wintry showers or snow, strong winds and freezing conditions. The extreme cold air masses are bringing temperatures -8 to -10°C below normal, while in Scandinavia are reaching even lower levels nearly -12°C with minimum temperatures reaching -15°C to -20°C on Saturday and Sunday morning in the northern parts. Scattered showers will be spread across central and northern Europe over the next few days, which will become wintry in places, while locally heavy snow is expected over Scandinavia, the Baltic states and Belarus. On Christmas day, unstable weather is expected in northern Europe with rain or scattered showers, which will locally turn wintry or to snow in Scandinavia and between the Baltic states and Belarus. Strong westerly winds are also predicted between 24 and 25 of December in northern Europe, specifically across the Northern, Baltic Sea and the Celtic Sea with gusts reaching even 110-130 km/h, so it requires attention in the UK, Denmark, western Norway, southern Sweden and the coastlines of France, the Low Countries, Poland and the Baltic states. The wave height could even reach 7-8m. On Christmas Eve, midday temperatures could reach 13°C in London, 12°C in Paris, 5°C in Copenhagen, 10°C in Prague, -4°C in Talin and -1°C in Helsinki.
High pressure in southern Europe brings temperature rise: on the other hand, a high pressure system will bring in general stable conditions between 24 to 26/12 with sunny spells in southern Europe; still with the risk for a few local showers, but in general it will feel like autumn. Temperature rise is also expected with temperatures reaching 18-20°C, while locally could reach even 21-23°C in Sicily and southern Greece between 24-26/12. In more detail, on Christmas Eve, temperatures will reach 19°C in Cagliari, 18-20°C in Palermo, 13°C in Milan and 21-22°C in Athens.
