Arctic air masses along with low pressure systems will dominate over the next few days until Christmas 25-26/12 the northern and mostly the northeastern Europe bringing temperature drop, patchy frost, wintry showers or snow and freezing conditions. The extreme cold air masses are bringing temperatures -8 to -10°C below normal, while in Scandinavia are reaching even lower levels nearly -12°C with minimum temperatures reaching -15°C to -20°C on Saturday and Sunday morning in the northern parts of Scandinavia. Scattered showers will be spread across central and northern Europe over the next few days, which will become wintry in places, while heavy snow is expected over the Alps, Scandinavia, the Baltic states and Belarus. On Christmas Eve midday temperatures could reach 10°C in London, 12°C in Paris, 7°C in Copenhagen, 9°C in Prague, -5°C in Talin and -1°C in Helsinki.

On the other hand, a high pressure system will dominate the Mediterranean Sea, bringing in general stable conditions between 23 to 26/12 with sunny spells in southern Europe, while there is still the risk for a few local showers. Temperature rise is also expected with temperatures even 8-10°C above normal, reaching in places 18-20°C, while locally could even reach 22-23°C, especially in Sicily and southern Greece between 24-26/12.
